A few clarifications to the Avro Arrow caption of Aug. 29 and the letter of Aug. 30. Prime minister John Diefenbaker rose in the House at 9: 30 a.m. on Feb.

Re: "Tuition costs must be curbed," Aug. 25. If student loans were abolished, then university tuition costs would be curbed. If the government did not guarantee student loans, then practically nobody would be able to afford university.

Re: "Conversation needed on city budget planning," Aug. 31. My handing out of Monopoly money at the citizens' budget workshops I've been holding is just meant to inject a little bit of fun into the conversation and the process.

Re: "A community grows at Westhills," Aug. 31.

Re: "The cougar is here to cull the deer," Aug. 31. I totally agree with the writer. Cougars are not interested in killing people and children, as is evident by the many sighted by the public, yet that cause no harm.

Re: "Tuition costs must be curbed," Aug. 25, and "University degrees are worth the cost," Aug. 30. The letter-writer is right to point out that students (and their parents) get great value and even greater opportunities from their university degrees.

Re: "Border Services union wary of reality-television exposure," Aug. 30. Border guards photographed for this TV series may indeed be wary.

George Abbott had just announced his resignation as the province's education minister and now he was in our Victoria studio a few minutes later, making like a stand-up comedian. Or, more precisely, a sit-down comedian.
