Dear Dr. Roach: I was put on Coumadin several years ago for atrial fibrillation. It was a perpetual pain in the butt, all those tests and never knowing from day to day how much the blood had been changed from meal to meal.

Dear Dr. Roach: Do you know of any problems with lithium interfering with levothyroxine? My 35-year-old daughter has taken levothyroxine for 12 years and started lithium a year ago for bipolar disorder.

Dear Dr. Roach: I had my prostate removed for prostate cancer in 2009 at age 70. I waited until now to start taking testosterone to feel better, because I was feeling very listless, with no sex drive.

Dear Dr. Roach: I am a female, 50 years of age and I smoke less than half a pack of cigarettes a day. I recently found out that I have blood in my urine. It is not noticeable with the naked eye, but under a microscope.

Dear Dr. Roach: How dangerous is protein in the urine? M.G. That’s a simple question with a complicated answer.

Dear Dr. Roach: I have had lower-back problems almost all my life. Many doctors and therapists have examined it, with almost no success. Recently my attacks have been fewer and milder, even if the bed is not quite right.

Dear Dr. Roach: For the past eight months, I have had a twitch in the inside of my right ear. I can hear it twitching, and I can feel it. It seems to get worse when I talk on the phone (it’s my phone ear), but sometimes I wake up with it twitching.

Dear Dr. Roach: I have had high blood pressure at times, and my doctor said I have white coat syndrome. I had a problem a few years ago where I felt lightheaded with pain in my chest, and I went to the emergency room.

Dear Dr. Roach: In a December column, you mentioned that the A1c result of 6.5 and above indicates a diabetic condition. My doctor is telling me that 5.6 is the cutoff, and since I’m at 5.8, I’m a diabetic.

Dear Dr. Roach: I’m a woman and will be 59 in a month. I’m in excellent health. I’ve worked out seriously with weight-bearing exercises for nearly 30 years.
