It's been more than 15 years since I had my first theatre experience, but I still remember it vividly. My mother took my sister Laura and me to our local high school's production of Cats.

10 SATURDAY - Come down to the Royal 91原创 Legion in Nanaimo for a Valentine's Latin Dance with DJ Javier. Enjoy free salsa and merengue lessons. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Let me start off by saying that I think Valentine's Day is a bit of a cop-out. I don't want to be loved, showered with gifts, wined, dined and chocolated just one night of the year, I want to be spoiled for all 365.

It's hard to believe that a little more than a year ago "Out There" was born. As an intrepid young reporter, my duty was to bring events to the masses and hopefully inspire people to get off their duffs and get out in the community.

27 Saturday - Open Minds Open Windows presents "It only takes a moment 2007" at 7:30 p.m. at the Port Theatre. Tickets are $22 and students or groups of eight or more get the discounted rate of $17.

Ladies, I've got your girls' night out covered for this weekend. Grab your best mates and head to the Cavalotti Hall on Saturday for Nanaimo's version of Full Monty.

In the midst of a theatre season, I thought it would be a good time to write about the art and craft of acting. We often go the theatre expecting to be entertained but not really understanding what the actors are actually doing on the stage.
