More than 5,000 B.C. Hydro customers on 91原创 Island are without power Wednesday morning, and B.C. Ferries has cancelled several sailings on its Quadra Island routes due to high winds over Haro Strait.
Weather warnings
Environment Canada for Greater Victoria and parts of east 91原创 Island on Wednesday morning.
High winds are expected from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River and in Greater Victoria.
A 91原创 frontal system approaching 91原创 Island is expected to produce strong southeasterly winds this morning, easing this afternoon.
Peak southeast winds are forecast to reach 70 kilometres an hour gusting to 90 km/h over exposed coastal areas and near Haro Strait.
High winds may result in and fallen tree branches.
Power outages
In Greater Victoria, almost 3,000 B.C. Hydro customers were without power as of 10:30 a.m., most in North Saanich and Central Saanich. The cause of that outage was still under investigation.
Another 2,500 were without power in Tofino due to trees down across power lines.
B.C. Ferries cancellations
B.C. Ferries cancelled several sailings between on Quadra Island on Wednesday morning due to adverse weather conditions.

The ferry corporation said another five sailings are at risk of cancellation: the 12:40 p.m., 1:05 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. departures from Quathiaski Cove, and the 1:05 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. sailings from Quadra Island.
Sailings between Whaletown (Cortes Island) and Heriot Bay (Quadra Island) were also cancelled due to forecast high winds:
