One person has died after a float plane carrying three people crashed Wednesday night northeast of Port Hardy.
Port Hardy RCMP were notified about 7:50 p.m. by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre that the plane had gone down in Warner Bay, on the mainland in Seymour Inlet.
A search and rescue team went to the scene and discovered the fatality.
Police said they are working with the Transportation Safety Board and B.C. Coroners Service, and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and West Coast Marine Services have been called in to help with the investigation.
“We are gathering information and assessing the situation,” the TSB said in a statement.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
A spokeswoman for the B.C. Coroners Service said in a statement it is investigating the incident, but because it’s an open investigation it couldn’t provide any details about the person who died or the circumstances of the crash.
“Port Hardy RCMP offer their sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone impacted by this fatality,” police said in a statement.
