Oak Bay police spot man trying to 'hot wire' a vehicle

A suspect was arrested and released on conditions ahead of an Oct. 30 court date.

A 24-year-old man was arrested by Oak Bay police after officers saw him trying to “hot wire” a vehicle in broad daylight in the 1000-block of Monterey Avenue, near McNeill Avenue.

The attempted theft was reported about 8:55 a.m. on Sept. 10.

The suspect was released on conditions and has an Oct. 30 court date.

Police are recommending charges of theft of a motor vehicle and mischief.
