A man was arrested last Friday after a student was attacked near Esquimalt High School, the Greater Victoria School District says.

The student sustained minor injuries.

Victoria police said the man arrested has been released with conditions that include not having any contact with the student, not going within 100 metres of the secondary school and not going to any school property.

Student witnesses told the student who was attacked is a 15-year-old boy, describing the attacker as a large man in his 40s.

They said the man pulled up in a pickup truck next to a group of students on lunch break.

One student said the man said, “I’m not afraid of you,” before throwing the victim onto a bench and starting to “beat his face in.”

A video of the incident, which CHEK said was posted anonymously on Facebook, shows the man throwing punches as the youth tries to fend him off.

A student yelled, “You’re fighting a [expletive] kid, bro,” at the attacker before he let up and drove away.
