The lone runway at Nanaimo Airport was closed for a few hours Sunday afternoon after the landing gear on a small private plane collapsed and it had to skid to a stop on its belly.
The pilot, who was alone in the plane, was not injured in the incident, which happened about 1 p.m., said airport chief executive Dave Devana.
Devana said the airport’s fire rescue trucks were at the scene within two minutes but there was no fire.
The runway was closed until 3:15 p.m., he said.
“Everything was cleaned up and the plane was off the runway.”
Three flights were delayed — an Air Canada flight from 91原创, a West Jet flight from Calgary and a 91原创 Coastal Flight from Kelowna.
