Police have yet to arrest the driver of a stolen pickup missing a tire that was driven in Victoria and Saanich on Christmas Eve.

Victoria police spokesperson Gemma Stroobant said in an email Friday morning that no one has been arrested.

Police are continuing their investigation and no further details can be provided at this time, she said.

The incident started Tuesday when police officers received a report from the truck’s owners that the stolen vehicle had been seen in downtown Victoria.

Police said the driver ran a red light after officers found the vehicle and got behind it.

Officers did not pursue at the time, said police spokesperson Cheryl Major.

Police said they caught up with the vehicle, which was stationary at the time, and were able to take a tire off the front left side of the truck using a manoeuvre that left one police car disabled.

Despite the truck’s missing wheel, the driver was still able to flee the scene.

Widely shared video of the three-wheeling driver show the northbound vehicle making a left turn onto Boleskine Road from Douglas Street while several police cars can be seen in the distance.

Another video, taken by someone standing across Mayfair mall, shows the truck travelling north on Douglas on the wrong side of the street. Police follow behind several seconds later. Sparks can be seen flying from where the missing tire should be.

A third video shows the driver of the truck attempting to make a right turn down a residential Saanich neighbourhood littered with garbage bins.

The truck has since been recovered. No one was injured in the incident.
