Residents were evacuated from a supportive-housing facility in Campbell River in the early hours of Wednesday after a fire in one of the 50 apartment units.

The Campbell River Fire Department responded about 2:30 a.m. to Q’waxsem Place and were able to confine the fire to a single unit. No serious injuries were reported.

Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl said the quick action of the fire department kept the fire contained.

The Strathcona Regional District established a reception centre for residents at the Campbell River Community Centre Lounge.

Completed in 2021, Q’waxsem Place at 580 Dogwood St. is managed by 91原创 Island Mental Health Society.

Residents have access to on-site support services such as life-skills training, employment assistance and counselling, physical and mental health resources, and addiction recovery services, according to BC Housing.
