Dear Dr. Roach: About a year ago, my 77-year-old wife started to have some trouble speaking, and in some cases remembering or forming words. It鈥檚 not so bad that you don鈥檛 understand her and it鈥檚 not constant. But it鈥檚 there just the same.

Dear Dr. Roach: I am 85 and in good health despite having had open heart surgery 10 years ago. I have been using a catheter three times a day for two years to drain urine, because my enlarged prostate distorts my bladder.

Dear Dr. Roach: I am a 79-year-old man and in good shape. The only medication I take is 20 mg of Lipitor daily. Approximately five years ago, I fell off a small ladder. The fall was caused because I lost my balance.

Dear Dr. Roach: Recently, I was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency after symptoms of unexpected and sustained diarrhea for three months. I was also diagnosed with NAFLD (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) last November.

Dear Dr. Roach: My hairdresser is being evasive about whether she has been vaccinated for COVID. She does not wear a mask. I am vaccinated, and I want everyone else to be as well, to avoid more harmful strains of the disease.

Dear Dr. Roach : What is heatstroke? I exercised a lot in the heat yesterday, and today I feel dizzy and nauseated, even though it isn鈥檛 as hot as yesterday. L.C. Heatstroke and heat exhaustion have similar names but are different conditions.

Dear Dr. Roach: I have seen very little written about lactose intolerance. I am a 79-year-old woman in excellent health. Over the past year or two, I experience gas, loose bowel movements and occasionally explosive diarrhea.

Dr Roach Writes: I have written many columns on COVID-19, which has become a major cause of death and disability in all of North America and the world.

Dear Dr. Roach: My doctor wants me to have a colonoscopy, but I would have to be off Xarelto for five days. The last time I did this I had a small stroke. P.D.
