A valiant comeback by the Victoria Shamrocks fell just short Tuesday night in New Westminster and now the Western Lacrosse Association regular-season champions are down to a must-win game.
The Shamrocks fell behind 5-0 after the first period of Game 4 at Queen’s Park Arena, but managed to claw their way back to 7-7 early in the third but goals a minute apart midway through the third period by the Salmonbellies proved to be the difference in a 9-8 game as the best-of-five semifinal series is now headed to a deciding game Thursday night at The Q Centre in Colwood.
Jesse King and Casey Wilson each had a pair of goals for Victoria, while Will Malcom had three goals and three assists to pace the New Westminster attack. Bennett Smith, Patrick Dodds, Clarke Patterson and Cole Pickup had the other Shamrocks goals.
The winner Thursday night will moved on to face the Langley Thunder in the WLA final.
LOOSE BALLS: The Peterborough Lakers drew first blood in the Major Series Lacrosse final on Monday night in Six Nations. The Lakers edged the top-seeded Chiefs 9-8 in Game 1. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series goes Thursday night in Peterborough. The MSL champion will host the Mann Cup national championship series against the WLA champion.
