The Ryder Hesjedal鈥檚 Tour de Victoria presented by Scotiabank, scheduled for Aug. 22, will not be held this year.
Organizers said hosting the Tour鈥檚 3,000 bike riders would not聽be possible due to the B.C. government鈥檚 pandemic ban on聽gatherings of more than 50 people.
鈥淲e have been delaying this decision as long as possible in hopes of finding a solution for the Tour this summer,鈥 said Seamus McGrath, ride director.
鈥淲e were excited to be celebrating our 10th annual Tour de Victoria. We were on track to once again break our attendance record.鈥
The 10th anniversary edition of the Tour will now take place in 2021.
All riders have been provided with options for their registration fee, including deferrals to 2021 or 2022, refunds or an opportunity to donate to the charity organizations supported by the Tour.
The Tour鈥檚 namesake, Ryder Hesjedal of Colwood, represented Canada in three Olympic Games, won the Giro d鈥橧talia and was top-five in the Tour de France.
