The Victoria HarbourCats are peaking at exactly the right time.
The HarbourCats completed a three-game West Coast League sweep of the Kamloops NorthPaws on Sunday with a 7-3 victory in front of 2,184 fans at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.
The win, Victoria’s sixth in a row, moved the HarbourCats (10-8 in the second half) to within one game of the North Division second-half leading Wenatchee Apple Sox (11-7) and Bellingham Bells (11-7) in the chase for the division’s final playoff spot.
The HarbourCats will continue to hunt down that playoff spot tonight as they hit the stretch run of the regular season with nine games remaining. Victoria hosts the Edmonton Riverhawks tonight in the first of a three-game set at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.
Following the three games with Edmonton, the HarbourCats will head to Bellingham for three weekend games and then wrap up the regular season with three home games against the defending WCL-champion Corvallis Kinghts starting Monday night.
On Sunday, outfielder Michael Crossland led the HarbourCats offence, going 3-for-5 with an RBI, while reliever Flynn Ridley pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
