The Prince George Cougars defeated the Victoria Royals by a 2-1 count in a shootout in Western Hockey League play at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria on Friday night.
Riley Heidt scored for Prince George (19-9-5) and defenceman Seth Fryer for Victoria (17-10-6) in regulation time.
The teams meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Centre.
