Three cheers for Claremont High School for piloting a program that will introduce kids to five career possibilities in the trades and providing a foot in the door for further education.
At a time when jobs for young people are at a premium, the trades in B.C. and across Canada are begging for new skilled workers. Everyone is not "academically" inclined, but working as a plumber, carpenter or electrician is not a job for the unintelligent or lazy. That's a myth that needs to be laid to rest. As in any career, the smarter, more skilled and responsible one is, the more in demand, the better the pay and the greater the job satisfaction.
There are options, large and small, for self employment, residential or commercial, or moving into management in larger companies and for the most committed, always work. Furthermore, the pay and benefits are great.
