Why tolerate unproved charges?

Re: “Deal with scandal professionally,” letter, Feb. 23.

I have been following the news of the suspension and subsequent investigation of legislature clerk Craig James and sergeant-at-arms Gary Lenz with disbelief. I agree with the letter-writer that the situation has been handled unprofessionally from the start.

An accusation of overspending can be dealt with by an internal investigation in which all parties can give their responses in a professional and normal way. To have the RCMP involved and to escort the two men out of their positions without explanation is extraordinary.

What Speaker Darryl Plecas and chief of staff Alan Mullen have done amounts to personal and professional character assassination. I cannot believe that the legislature condones the removal of officers and then a prolonged period of accusations without proof, many of which are subjective and hearsay.

I’d be relieved to see both men reinstated in their positions while any investigation and subsequent changes to spending limits are put in place.
