As a local resident and one who drives the Malahat frequently, I would not like to see new roadways through the Sooke Hills Wilderness Park or any critical wildlife habitat or buffer zones for our regional water supply.
Also, with the recently declared climate emergency and growing traffic congestion, I note that public-transit investments are essential and urgent.
A key example would be completing the Trans-Canada Highway shoulder bus lanes from McKenzie Avenue to the Six Mile area. Buses can carry 40 per cent of all commuters on this route, and the better the bus service, the less congestion we will all face.
