It seems that I cannot pass through a checkout counter in a store these days without the clerk applying a significant amount of psychological pressure by asking if I would donate a dollar or two to a charity.
Many folks who buy groceries are probably eligible to receive this charitable donation, and do not need the social pressure of being asked to donate in front of a gallery of other shoppers. I think the approach is unnecessary and borders on intimidation.
I am sure that a simple sign at the register stating that donations to a charity of the store's choice would more than suffice, and would not embarrass those who cannot afford to donate every time they shop.
Charitable donation requests have reached a point of an annoyance. Let a shopper make a private decision at the checkout counter.
