What's wrong with this picture? A North Saanich woman is en route to Seattle for urgent surgery rather than waiting until September to have it done here.
Earlier this month, a Saanich woman had to go to 91原创 for her mastectomy because she didn't dare wait until the fall to have it done locally. A Victoria friend of mine has been told that she can't have required knee surgery, despite the debilitating pain she's experiencing.
These are all urgent cases. Why is this happening? Is it a lack of funds? If so, this is taking place even as the 91原创 Island Health Authority spent close to a million dollars last year to pay for carbon offsets. Our hospitals and schools are being squeezed financially so that B.C. can have carbon-neutrality bragging rights.
Aren't our priorities more than a little screwed up?
