Breed discrimination is the same as any other kind of discrimination - and it's not OK.
The idea that muzzles should be mandatory for pit bulls makes me cringe. It's not the breed; it's the owner. If you aren't going to be responsible enough to train your dog, especially a large breed capable of significant harm, you shouldn't own a dog. If a lab, collie, poodle or chihuahua bites someone, it's a dog bite, but as soon as a pit bull does it, people love to mouth off about the breed being inherently aggressive.
Why would we think that? Because they attack more frequently than other breeds? No, there are more instances of labs, beagles and collies attacking and biting than pit bulls. We are constantly seeing news stories regarding "aggressive" pit bulls, movies and music videos showing big guys with snarling pit bulls at their side. This is all the more reason to educate yourself on the breed, and what it takes to be a responsible dog owner.
I suggest contacting Victoria's HugaBull rescue organization, and maybe fostering one of their amazing dogs.
Sorry to all those that say so, but muzzles aren't the answer. Unless, of course, it's on you.
