New residents should pay for highways

Why blame the government for the traffic congestion to and from the West Shore? The fault lies with the people who have moved to the fastest-growing areas to take advantage of cheaper land.

I do not see why a person living in the core municipalities should have to pay for another hugely expensive widening of the Trans-Canada and the Old Island highways so that commuters from the west side can arrive at work a few minutes earlier.

You use it, you pay. A fee charged for the Department of Highways and an annual tax that would accrue for future highway improvements should be charged to new developments. If a person decides to move to an outlying area to save a few hundred thousand dollars on a house, they should not get a free ride into town on the backs of those who live in other areas.

There really is a limit to the size of the roadways that can be built unless you want the extreme roads, such as the ones that lead into Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
