I am shocked and disgusted over the proposal by Coun. Ben Isitt to ban horse-drawn carriages in Victoria.

Many relatives who visit and enjoy this city are astounded over this, as were all the residents I talked to on a recent morning. None could support this move to take away one of Victoria’s main tourist attractions, one that provides a unique character not shared by other cities.

I live in James Bay on Dallas Road, and the carriages cause me no problems when I drive in this area, where most of them operate.

However, I have major concerns over the many cyclists who blatantly go through red lights, ride the wrong way along one-way streets, and alternate between the roads and sidewalks without any regard for pedestrians or traffic.

City council needs to get its act together to address these issues before taking away one of the activities that makes Victoria a special place to visit.
