Re: "Deer will keep on feeding while humans dither," Aug. 24
It's too easy to say kill the deer, when the only reason we are having this problem is because of the growing development pressures in the Capital Regional District that have forced hundreds of deer to migrate into the urban areas in search of food. At the same time, killing off the predators of the deer has caused an imbalance.
The cull will only deal with the symptom and not the cause. This is the same issue with the University of Victoria and Victoria General Hospital rabbits, where irresponsible owners dropped off unwanted pets, but instead of dealing with the cause, it was decided to deal with the symptoms.
I feel for the farmers and those who have gardens. If we as a species are unable to co-exist with animals in this region, then perhaps we need to do a human management plan.
It's time to take a look in the mirror and see the real cause of this problem: us.
