The senior in Oak Bay should should read the excellent B.C. Assessment explanation of why his property going up in value has only a limited impact on the property taxes he pays. Assessments only determine how to distribute the municipal tax burden.
His property value could drop and he would still pay the same tax if all properties in Oak Bay dropped by the same amount. If he does not like his taxes going up, he should talk to Oak Bay Council.
