Re: "Drunk-driving cases 'staggering,'" Aug. 30.
Since May, the Victoria Police Department has taken off the road 115 people who were either suspected impaired drivers, driving under the influence of drugs or those who refused to blow. This works out to be about one person per day. They call this "unacceptable."
What the article does not answer is how many simply should not have been behind the wheel of a vehicle because they were staggering drunk, stupid and should go to jail, and how many only blew a "warn" (below .08) but still had their vehicles impounded and have to now come up with $500 to pay the associated fines to the Insurance Corp. of B.C. because they had a pint or glass of wine over lunch or dinner.
