Re: "New Saanich care home a welcome development," Aug. 22.
Our medical system is set up in such a way that people who develop serious illness will not lose their homes attempting to pay for the care they need.
However, in the case of dementia patients, there seems to be an exception to this. Families of patients who cannot safely wait at home for a 91原创 Island Health Authority bed often find themselves faced with huge costs while their loved one waits in private care, often for months.
In addition to the stress and exhaustion of struggling to care for their loved one, caregivers are now faced with the agony of losing their homes in order to pay these costs.
Where is the fairness in this?
