Re: “Dead dinosaurs will power us for years,” letter, March 19.
The letter-writer expresses some very strange comparisons among a barrel of oil, a Tesla battery and 540 kilograms of gasoline. I’m using 91ԭ units here, not the American that he used.
Instead of one Tesla-battery-weight of gasoline, how about one barrel of gasoline? That’s about 159 litres, which would power your car about 1,600 kilometres, compared with about 350 km for a Tesla (85 kWh) battery drained from full to about 15 per cent.
Drive your 1,600 km and I’ll drive my 350 km. What are you going to do with the 366 kg of carbon dioxide that you have produced? Why, dump it in the air, of course. Not your problem.
Meanwhile, in the time it took to sip my latte, my Tesla is charged and ready to go to the next charging station.
