Re: "Remembering the end of the Avro Arrow," Aug. 29.
The caption under the picture of the Avro Arrow incorrectly places the Diefenbaker government in the early '50s. That government was first elected in 1957. The Avro Arrow was not cancelled until February of 1959.
Years later, I worked in that plant for a short time and I was told of the workers arriving at the plant that morning to be confronted with locked gates. Without warning, they were out of work.
