Central Saanich has low-income housing

Recent letters to the editor have characterized Central Saanich as heartless because many residents and the council are in favour of upholding municipal bylaws limiting the number of people who can live on one piece of property.

Recent letters to the editor have characterized Central Saanich as heartless because many residents and the council are in favour of upholding municipal bylaws limiting the number of people who can live on one piece of property. One letter complained that Central Saanich has no low-income housing.

I'm not sure what "low income" means, but Central Saanich has at least as many secondary suites per capita as any other municipality, and more than most, renting for $400 to $800 a month. Further, on a per capita basis, there are more housing units priced at the low end of the spectrum for sale in Central Saanich than in any other CRD municipality. To be exact, there are currently 11 homes priced from $115,000 to $190,000.

I don't know if that's "low income," but it's a lot more "low income" than anything you'll find in Oak Bay. Or Victoria.

Or Saanich. Or North Saanich. Or Sidney. Or almost anywhere else.
