Since it is provincial government policy to encourage people to engage in healthy activities, thereby reducing health-care expenses for the province, why does it impose a provincial sales tax on electrically assisted bicycles (e-bikes)?
A large segment of the population desires to ride a regular bicycle but are unable to do so because of aging. An e-bike provides these seniors with the opportunity for healthy exercise.
Regular bicycles are not subject to provincial tax, presumably for the reason mentioned above, so why is the government discriminating against seniors by taxing this newer mode of cycling?
In all fairness, please remove this discriminatory tax.
