Re: “Harbour authority hails 12-year deal with Norwegian Cruise Lines,” April 11.
The best place to view the cruise ships docked in Victoria during the summer is from your small boat, trolling for salmon in front of the harbour mouth. I have enjoyed this vantage point many times.
It is from here that you can really see the brown cloud of toxic generator exhaust spewing from the stacks and drifting, usually toward Esquimalt, where it can fall to Earth for all to enjoy.
Is there a plan by the harbour authority to install or upgrade electrical facilities at the terminal so the ships don’t have to run their generators the entire time the main engines are shut down? In many other cruise ship destinations, it is the law that they must plug in while in port.
I wonder if anyone is looking at any of the impacts beside the positive economic ones.
