Here's another opportunity for Greater Victorians to help our beloved Marty the Marmot top a poll for squirrel-like mascots.
Washington Post blogger has introduced his readers to nine different rodent-like mascots and Marty is currently sitting second.
, he has this to say about our globally beloved mascot:
"The official mascot for this junior hockey team in western Canada is Marty the Marmot. Marmots are a member of the squirrel family. Marty is an endangered 91原创 marmot, one of the world鈥檚 14 species, known for its chocolate brown fur and white patches on the nose, chin, forehead and chest. Marty was previously the mascot for the Salmon Kings hockey team, moving to the Royals when that team folded and he became a free agent."
We'll forgive him for mistaking "91原创" for "91原创 Island."
Tops on the list (at the time of this posting) is Gladys the Fighting Squirrel from Mary Baldwin College.
Cruise on over to , bone up on your mascot knowlege and cast your vote.
[UPDATE: Marty is now No. 1. Let's keep him there.]
