²Ñ¾±²µ³ó³ÙÌýyouÌýbe called to live a life that is marked with greater simplicity, deeper rhythms of prayer, shared living with others, and compassion and companionship with your neighbours?
We believe that an exciting movement of the Spirit is happening! Small clusters of Christians are intentionally coming together to ‘incarnate’ (move) into a neighbourhood to care for each other, for all those whom they meet along the way - and for the earth on which they walk.Ìý
Some have called this movementÌýnew monasticism.Ìý New monastics take some cues from traditional monastics such as living in close geographic proximity to each other, praying together daily, settling-into and caring for a place and its people, aligning themselves with those regarded as ‘poor’ or ‘marginalized’, and developing aÌý‘r³Ü±ô±ð’ÌýorÌý‘r³ó²â³Ù³ó³¾â€™Ìýof life that acts as a basic guideline for their common life as they seek to follow Christ together.
Though we are just in our infancy, our vision and prayer is thatÌýEmmaus CommunityÌýwill be an intergenerational space (yes, including children and elders!) of daily prayer, simpler living, radical hospitality, creation care, deep relationships, learning, creativity and art, scripture study, shared meals (including weekly Eucharist/communion), shared resources (including some experiments in shared economics and housing), social micro-enterprises, justice-seeking, Sabbath-keeping, confession and forgiveness, lament and - of course – joy!
At this early point ‘along the road’Ìýwe’re looking for some othersÌý– single-folks, partners and/or families – who might be called to join us in on this journey in Christian community and be part of the ‘stable core’ that roots itself in a neighbourhood here in Victoria.
If you think this could be you or someone you know, please do take a look aroundÌýto learn more about the emerging vision - and drop us a line at[email protected].ÌýYou can like ourÌýÌýto get updates.ÌýAlso, please do send this on to others who you think might be interested.
Our next step will be to begin to gather interested folks for some information-sharing, prayer, conversation and story-telling onÌýMonday February 3, 2014Ìý²¹³ÙÌý7pmÌýat theÌýÌý(in partnership with the UVic Anglican Chaplaincy) – parking lot # 6 on Outer Ring Road, UVic Campus.
