This Sunday, Sept 29, ideas and questions about the connection between media, spirituality and politics will be the subject of this month's Forum at Christ Church Cathedral.

Before he left on sabbatical this fall, The Very Rev. Dr. Logan McMenamie, Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, wanted to ensure that the Forum Sunday Service scheduled on September 29 would be a memorable occasion. He succeeded. A 10:30am service replaces the usual 9:15am and 11am services, and six well-known speakers will join a panel discussion after the service and the lunch that follows.

The topic on the table is Media, Politics and Spirituality: What do they have to say to each other? The Dean was eager to draw together people of different disciplines to discuss how their fields interact.

鈥淲e are delighted that these speakers have accepted our invitation to attend the forum,鈥 says The Rev. Canon Susanne House, Associate Priest at the Cathedral. 鈥淲e look forward to a lively debate.鈥澛

The speakers are: Anna Bowness-Park, Christian Science and Spiritually Speaking; Paul Bramadat, Centre for Studies in Religion and Society, University of Victoria; Chris Coleman, City of Victoria; Carol James, MLA Victoria - Beacon Hill; Jack Knox, Times 91原创; and Jo-Ann Roberts, CBC All Points West. Moderating the discussion is Kirsten McMenamie-Horncastle.聽

鈥淪pirituality, politics and the media are three of the things most of us don鈥檛 talk about at the dinner table. Yet exploring and understanding how they intersect and influence our lives, community, and country is essential,鈥 says Anna Bowness-Park, a Christian Scientist and columnist at the Times 91原创. 鈥淩ather than leaving this discussion off the table, Christ Church Cathedral is boldly bringing it up for discussion.鈥

During the service three of the speakers will address the congregation briefly. Everyone is welcome to come to both the service and the panel discussion. For those only able to attend the discussion 12:30pm is the estimated start time.聽
