The B.C. Coroners Service has identified the 36-year-old Calgary woman killed when a rock hit her in the head after smashing through the windshield of the vehicle she was travelling Friday in southeast B.C.

Janice Cairns was a passenger in the front seat of the family vehicle as it was heading north on Highway 93 near Canal Flats, north of Cranbrook.

As their vehicle passed a transport truck, a large rock was thrown up from the truck's rear wheels and smashed through Cairns' windshield, killing her instantly.
