S&P/TSX composite ticks lower on Monday morning, U.S. stock markets mixed

TORONTO — Losses in the financial, industrial and telecom sectors pushed Canada's main stock index lower in late-morning trading on Monday, while U.S. stock markets were mixed. The S&P/TSX composite index was down 19.13 points at 24,580.35.

TORONTO — Losses in the financial, industrial and telecom sectors pushed Canada's main stock index lower in late-morning trading on Monday, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 19.13 points at 24,580.35.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 214.49 points at 42,625.77. The S&P 500 index was down 1.76 points at 5,929.09, while the Nasdaq composite was up 65.54 points at 19,638.14.

The 91Ô­´´ dollar traded for 69.36 cents US compared with 69.61 cents US on Friday.

The February crude oil contract was down 63 cents at US$68.83 per barrel and the February natural gas contract was down seven cents at US$3.40 per mmBTU.

The February gold contract was down US$20.10 at US$2,625.00 an ounce and the March copper contract was down two cents at US$4.02 a pound.
