Work at Sooke’s Charters Road is expected to continue until October. VIA DISTRICT OF SOOKE

The District of Sooke says there has been “significant progress” made on repairs to Charters Road, which is considered among the sticking points in the community’s ongoing traffic problems.

The problems are linked to the closure of the road to accommodate the work, which has to be done now because the road is in such bad shape.

Work on the road, expected to last until October, is also coming within the window of time that best protects fish in nearby Charters Creek.

A move to have the rock-crushing needed for the project done closer to the work site has reduced the need to truck the material, the district said, while all sections of a culvert being replaced have been put in.

“Currently, crews are backfilling around the culvert, with plans underway to redirect the temporary creek-bypass system in the near future,” the district said. — Times 91ԭ
