Former navy officer Sid Tobias has been elected mayor in View Royal.
He defeated incumbent David Screech, who was first elected to council in 2002 and became mayor in 2014. Tobias had 1,291 votes to Screech’s 1,055.
Joining Tobias will be six councillors — two more than what the municipality had previously. All four incumbents were re-elected.
Elected as councillor are Damian Kowalewich, John Rogers, Alison MacKenzie, Ron Mattson, Gery Lemon and Don Brown.
The municipality has more than doubled in size since incorporation in 1988, and was the largest community with a five-person council (including the mayor) in the province.
