A driver lost control while doing “donuts” in a residential area of Nanaimo Saturday night and ended up ramming his vehicle into the front of a house, then running away.
No one in the residence, located in the roundabout next to the Butcher Road/Kenwill Drive intersection, or in the vehicle was injured, Nanaimo RCMP said.
The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m.
Police arrived to find the homeowner and several neighbours outside assessing the damage.
Witnesses said the driver had been driving aggressively in circles and doing “donuts” before careening across a front lawn and ramming into the home, destroying some brick work and a basement window, police said.
Two people got out of the vehicle and and ran away, but police managed to track down the alleged driver about an hour later.
The young-adult man was issued several tickets for violations including having no insurance, failure to remain at the scene of a motor-vehicle incident, and driving without due care. The vehicle was towed.
“This incident could have ended tragically and is a good reminder that there is no time or place for this type of driving on our streets, and that drivers will be held responsible for their actions,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien.
