A round from an ARWEN weapon was fired during an hours-long standoff on Cook Street, between Pandora Avenue and Johnson Street, on Thursday night.
The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team was called out at about midnight Thursday to the 1400-block of Cook Street for a person experiencing a mental-health crisis, Victoria police said.
Family called police after a person who was experiencing a mental-health emergency refused to go to hospital, police said.
After hours of negotiation, about 3 a.m. police used “chemical munitions” and a round from an ARWEN firearm — a weapon that can release projectiles including plastic bullets.
Family were at the scene with the officers and the person was eventually transported to hospital for care, said police, adding the call concluded by 4 a.m.
