Three days after his truck and trailer were stolen from Salt Spring Island, the owner was driving in the Sooke area when he realized he was actually following his own vehicles.

The Dodge pickup truck and Winnebago trailer had been taken sometime overnight Nov. 26 from a residence on Blackburn Road on Salt Spring.

Surveillance footage from B.C. Ferries showed the truck leaving the island Nov. 27 on a ferry from Vesuvius Bay.

The truck and trailer were last seen being driven off the ferry at the Crofton terminal at 8:50 a.m.

On Nov. 30, the owner was on the road in the Sooke area about midnight when he spotted his trailer being pulled right in front of him by his stolen truck.

He called Sooke RCMP, who intercepted the truck and trailer and arrested the driver.

The 40-year-old man of no fixed address was later released with a Feb. 20 court date.

The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Salt Spring Island RCMP at 250-537-5555.
