Ten firefighters from Port Alberni are expected to begin mopping up a fire near Cobble Hill Friday morning.The fire, now under investigation, broke out about 6:10 p.m. Thursday near the Shawnigan Lake quarry. Fire information officer Marg Drysdale of the Coastal Fire Centre said two attack crews on the ground fought the 0.7-hectare fire. They were assisted by two helicopters bucketing water onto the fire and one airtanker dropping water. One water truck was also on site, said Drysdale.聯They made very good progress on it tonight. Tomorrow will be mop up,聰 she said.The Port Alberni firefighters, known as the T-birds, will be looking for hot spots, using shovels to turn over the ground and feeling the earth with their hands, which is known as cold trailing.
