One male was arrested after a fight on a B.C. Transit bus Monday afternoon between a passenger who verbally harassed the driver and another passenger who intervened.
B.C. Transit said in a statement that a male passenger was acting in an aggressive manner toward the driver during a stop at Douglas Street and Hillside Avenue about 4 p.m. by the No. 95 bus.
No details of the fight were released, but police said one male was arrested and released with conditions to appear in court at a future date, adding the investigation is continuing.
The transit company said it appreciated the quick response from the transit supervisor and emergency services to the incident, which caused a temporary disruption to service for the bus involved. The No. 95 provides service between downtown Victoria and Langford.
B.C. Transit said it take reports of such behaviour very seriously, and works closely with police “to follow the legal process for complaints.”
“If someone is the victim of an inappropriate or illegal activity or sees something that is inappropriate or illegal on the bus, please call the police.”
Measures in place to deal with problems on buses include closed-circuit cameras on most buses, emergency-notification systems and partnerships with first responders that support quicker response to incidents, B.C. Transit said.
