GRIMMER, Wallace Gordon
Born February 26, 1953, North 91原创, fought a losing battle with 'The Big C', died July 25, 2012. Left to grieve is his cherished son, Robert, mother and dad, Maria and Eric Grimmer, brother, Jim (Elaine), and family. Bobbie, widow of brother Rick, and her family. Wally attended SFU for 3 years, worked at the paper mill in Campbell River for 28 years. Many thanks to those who cared for Wally in his waning days. A special thanks to Stu Murray for being a special friend to the last, and to Linda Swim, Robert's mother.
Wally's ashes will be interred beside his grandfather, Neptune Grimmer, on Pender Island. Forever remembered. Met Liefde.
HOLGATE, Fred William
May 20 1938 -July 23 2012
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Fred at Cowichan District Hospital with his loving family by his side. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Edith Holgate he is survived by his 4 children: Fred Jr., Daryl, Jamie (Marnie) and Sandra, his grandchildren Jailene and Luke and his sister Barbara (Ed) Fouts and family in Texas. His loving wife of 25 years, Maureen and his extended family Keith and Deena Nelson, Sandra Boyd, Janice and Dan Brooks and Steve and Calli Thorne. Great grandchildren Jordy, Kerry and Kurt Nelson, Craig and Gary Boyd, Devin and Jolene Loewen and 7 great great grandchildren. Fred was born in Toronto and raised in Ucluelet, Duncan and Chemainus areas. He attended schools in Chemainus and Ladysmith. Joined the Air Forces at 18 years old. Married Solange Guiboche at Gimli Manitoba and returned to Duncan (Mt. Sicker) where he raised his 4 children. Fred was in the Trucking Industry working mostly for Domans (Trans Isle). Fred loved driving (anywhere), fishing, camping and having a beer(s) around the campfire with friends. He lived life to the fullest and was loved by many. Many thanks to the great staff on the 2nd Floor for their care.

HUNT, Ian
Passed away peacefully at home in his 88th year. Leaving behind, his lovely wife Vera after 59 years of marriage and two children, Lorna (Bill) and Bruce (Niki) and four grandchildren, Devin, Brennan, Garrett and Avy. Ian emigrated from Scotland in 1952 and worked the majority of his career at the Dockyard in Esquimalt. Ian and his sense of humour will be missed by all. The family would like to thank the first responders for their care and compassion.

HAY, James McBay
Jim passed away suddenly on July 28th, 2012 at the age of 75. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cathy; and sons Neil (Catherine), Colin, his much loved grandsons Cameron and Duncan, his adopted daughter Kathleen (Alasdair) and granddaughter Delany. Jim was born on May 19th, 1937 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He started his career in shipbuilding and later served with the Royal Engineers in Germany from 1958 to 1960. Jim and Cathy were married in 1965 and they emigrated to Canada in 1966. Jim worked mostly in the oil & gas industry. He retired from Syncrude Canada in 1994, and moved to Victoria. After 2001, he worked for the Commissionaires. He loved Robert Burns. He was a life long mason and was particularly fond of his association with the Fort McMurray Lodge 195. In his earlier years he was a competitive swimmer and diver, later reading, golf, and running kept him busy. He is remembered as a much loved husband, father, and grandfather.
At Jim's request there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
KAMITAKAHARA, Akiko
September 26, 1931 -June 12, 2012
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Akiko Kamitakahara. A tireless volunteer, Akiko's smile and positive energy will be missed by her sisters and their families and friends. Whether walking around Victoria or helping out with a civic event, Akiko was always there to lend a hand and make life a little brighter for everyone that she met. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Akiko's life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow in the Holly Room. Sunday July 29, 2012 at Victoria Hospice surrounded by family and friends. Survived by loving husband Guy, son Samson, daughter Lucille and the many other foster children she loved and cared for throughout her life. Also survived by her own foster mother Peggy and sister Anne. Predeceased by her daughter Melissa, brother Bruce and foster brother Peter. A gathering of family and friends will be held mid August. STAGG, Gary Elwood
July 13, 1935 -July 29, 2012
Gary Elwood Stagg of Calgary passed away on July 29, 2012 at 77 years of age. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Polkinghorne of Victoria, BC. Gary was predeceased by his wife Darlene, his brother Glen Stagg and his parents Irene and Elwood Stagg.

KENNEDY, Robert Patrick (Pat)
Passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on July 21, 2012. Born on May 11, 1927, in Fort William, Ontario. Survived by his wife, Thelma, of 55 years; children, Sheila, Stephen and Laura and grandchildren, Aidan, Ethan and Brittany. Pat's working career has been in construction and maintenance of public works, highways, bridges, sewers and potable water installations. As a young man, Pat worked for six years as highway location surveyor in Northern Ontario. Living in tents, tolerating winter cold and blackflies, rising to Supervisor of Surveys and Construction. In 1956, with construction of the Trans Canada Highway through the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia, he was Supervisor of Construction of Highways between Banff and Lake Louise and then on to Rogers Pass Construction of the Trans Canada Highway. In 1962, Pat and his family moved to Whitehorse, Yukon and while there, he supervised highway construction town sites and utilities for Department of Public Works. Pat and his family loved their eleven years in the Yukon, meeting friendly people and participating in community activities. In 1973, Pat and his family moved to Victoria, BC and he became General Works Superintendent for Saanich Municipality. In 1990, Pat participated in Africa 2000 -the municipal response to problems in Malawi, Central Africa. Pat went to Zomba, Malawi several times over the years from 1989 to 1995, solving problems there with financial help from Canada and Saanich. Roads, construction of market facilities, sewer systems, wells, street lighting. He enjoyed his time there bringing his expertise and training the local workers in maintenance of their City. Pat retired in August 1991.

SANDERS, Marjorie Jane
Born June 22/1930 -Died July 28/2012
Born in Neepawa, Manitoba. Survived by her husband of 60 years, William, and their five children, Pat, Murray (Christy), Bruce (Lorraine), Doug (Michelle), and Darren, and their six grandchildren, Candace, Andrea, Sabrina, Alysha, Connor and Lexa. Marjorie was a outdoorswoman, a mother, a teacher and an artist, with a feisty sense of humor and incredible courage to overcome the obstacles she faced in life. She loved pottery, walks on the beach, family gatherings and supporting her beloved Cubbies.
As Marjorie wished, a private family gathering was held to celebrate her life. The family would like to thank the staff of the Priory for their support and assistance over the past year.
