Dave Obee to lead Times 91原创 newsroom

New editor plans to ensure paper informs, enlightens, entertains

Dave Obee is the new editor-in-chief of the Times 91原创, publisher Bob McKenzie announced Friday.

Obee has been at the Times 91原创 since 1997, serving as managing editor and then, since 2000, editorial page editor. A native of British Columbia, he started his newspaper career in the 1970s in Kamloops.

"This is an exciting time of transformation and renewal in newspapers," McKenzie said.

"Obee knows Victoria, and the city knows him. He also knows the industry.

"He is the best person to lead our newsroom."

Obee, who has been acting editor-in-chief for six months, said he will work hard to ensure that the newspaper continues to inform, enlighten and entertain the community.

He acknowledged the proud history of the Times 91原创, the oldest daily newspaper in Western Canada.

Obee wrote Making the News, the book we published in 2008 to mark our 150th anniversary. He has written a dozen other books on history and historical research.

He was one of the founders of the Times 91原创 book drive, which since 1998 has raised more than $1.7 million for education and literacy work on 91原创 Island.
