Cowichan rescue crews search for man last seen in Youbou

Nicholas Marion, 28, was last seen leaving a friend鈥檚 house at 11439 Youbou Rd. at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The wife of a man who hasn’t been seen since he left a friend’s house early Saturday is asking the public to direct all tips and offers of assistance to police and Cowichan Search and Rescue, saying she’s been overwhelmed with messages and calls.

“That’s taking me away from doing the work that I need to do to find my husband,” said Dory Marion.

Nicholas Marion, 28, was last seen leaving a friend’s house at 11439 Youbou Rd. at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to Lake Cowichan RCMP.

He was visiting the Youbou area on the long weekend and is unfamiliar with the region, police said.

Dory Marion said she’s incredibly worried about her husband. “This is very uncharacteristic of him and we’re really concerned.”

Ground and air search efforts continued Tuesday, with Cowichan Search and Rescue setting up a search operations base at Pine Point Campground, she said.

The group has been involved in the search since 7 p.m. Saturday.

Multiple unconfirmed sightings of Nicholas Marion have been posted on social media since then, including a false sighting in Lillooet.

Const. Balraj Saran of Lillooet-Lytton RCMP said the man involved in the purported Lillooet sighting was not Nicholas Marion.

B.C. RCMP Staff Sgt. Kris Clark said on Monday that police are following up on several tips and leads, but gave no further details.

“Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Nicholas Marion is asked to contact their local police,” he said in a statement.

Dory Marion’s son, Sebastien Thuot, said his stepfather may have been in distress when he went missing, noting that, among other things, he had recently lost his mother. “He’s just been going through it.”

The couple had gone to the Lake Cowichan area together from Victoria, Thuot said.

Nicholas Marion is described as six feet tall, 174 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a short beard.

He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black jogging pants and black Nike Air Jordan 11 sneakers.

Anyone with information on Nicholas Marion’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668.
