The Victoria Cool Aid Society is moving its annual in-person fundraiser online, coupled with a livestream guitar concert.
The society鈥檚 Homecoming Gala, its premier fundraiser, has been cancelled this year due to the pandemic. The Homecoming Matching Challenge and Show will take its place, with a goal of raising $100,000 or more.
Funds raised during the campaign will be used to support people living with multiple challenges like mental and physical illness, poverty, homelessness and food insecurity.
Until June 28, donations up to $50,000 will be matched thanks to the support of Andrew Beckerman, the Viveka Foundation, Knappett Projects, Butler Concrete and Aggregates and TL Housing Solutions.
鈥淲e wanted to find a way to raise the money the gala would have brought in to ensure Cool Aid鈥檚 clients aren鈥檛 left behind because of the pandemic,鈥� said John Knappett, the event鈥檚 presenting sponsor. 鈥淪o myself and some other supporters pooled together to create a $50,000 matching challenge. We hope we can make up for the lost revenue from the gala cancellation.鈥�
On June 27, people can tune in to the Homecoming Show, a 60-minute concert performed live by 91原创 guitarist Calum Graham from his home. People can also buy goods donated by local businesses, with money going to Cool Aid.
The fundraising matching campaign continues until June 28. The live performance will run 7 to 8 p.m. June 27 at Facebook.com/viccoolaid.
