A coastal flooding warning has been issued for West 91原创 Island for Saturday.
Environment Canada is warning of moderate flood risk for coastal communities between Estevan Point lighthouse and Clo-oose, which is within 91原创 Rim National Park Reserve.
The federal agency is warning of elevated sea levels on West 91原创 Island during the mid-day high tide, caused by a confluence of seasonal high tides, a storm surge and strong winds. Envrionment Canada is expecting waves up to three metres high.
The elevated sea-surface warning covers a wide swath of the Island’s outer coast, from the North Island First Nations community of Kyuquot down to East Sooke.
Sea levels could reach 40 centimetres above normal high-tide water marks and water and debris may pool in low-lying areas and parking lots prone to flooding, Environment Canada said.
Logs and heavy debris are expected to be deposited on beaches along the coast during this time and beachgoers could be swept into the ocean near rocky outcrops, the federal agency said.
