Candidates vying to be the next MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca will be available in a West Shore cafe right up to the eve of voting day next week.
Poncho’s Café, at 115-755 Goldstream Ave., is hosting meet-and-greet candidate sessions this week and next to help voters decide who they want to represent them.
Five candidates are vying for the seat, left vacant after New Democrat John Horgan, the former premier, resigned in March.
They are BC Green candidate Camille Currie, the founder of BC Health Care Matters; B.C. Conservative Mike Harris, a real estate agent; BC United’s Elena Lawson, a parent advocating for children with autism; New Democrat Ravi Parmar, chair of the Sooke School District; and Tyson Riel Strandlund of the Communist Party of B.C.
Ninety-minute meet-and-greets continue this week, with one candidate feature at each session:
• June 14, 1 p.m. — Harris (Conservative)
• June 15, 1 p.m. — Strandlund (Communist)
• June 16, 10 a.m. — Currie (Green)
• June 16, 1 p.m. — Parmar (NDP)
• June 21, 10 a.m. — Lawson (BC United)
• June 22, 19 a.m. — Strandlund (Communist)
• June 23, 10 a.m. — Parmar (NDP)
Voters will go to the polls on Saturday, June 24.
Advance voting will be available June 16-21 at Crossing at Belmont, 110-955 Reunion Ave., Langford; SEAPARC Leisure Complex, 2168 Phillips Rd., Sooke; and the district electoral office, 110-955 Reunion Ave., Langford.
Additional advance voting polls are open June 16-19 at Four Points Sheraton, 829 McCallum Rd., Langford, and June 20 and 21 at Gordon United Church, 935 Goldstream Ave., Langford.
All locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Premier David Eby called byelections last month to fill two seats following the resignations of Horgan and former cabinet minister Melanie Mark, who represented 91原创-Mount Pleasant.
